I work in the industry in South LA. I just heard that one of the employees was injured and was flown to a hospital in Houma, LA where he was pronounced dead. I also understand this is a production platform and not a drilling rig and the explosion was not wellhead related. None of this has been confirmed yet.

what we heard here in sin diego was that the rig was a production not drilling rig and that there is no spew -- at least no visible sheen or goo. am sorry to hear he died, we didnt hear that. i was typing th post as the words were said on my puter--i was listening to wwl, new orleans, online.

News right now is much better - nobody died and all 13 have been released from the hospital. CG is also reporting no oil on the surface at this time and that the fire is out.

If all that is true, then the major worries are past.
