UhOh Boredom again, steel, teak and a welder

We got a generator to run the AC/Heat, TV, Blender, etc. But where to put it?

The port locker has the ac unit and life jackets and what not. The stern locker has the propane.

So I built a bracket with some steel rod and put some teak on it for the heck of it. Where the generator hangs is gimbaled so that when sailing and the boat is heeling the unit stays upright for proper oil flow.

I welded together two fittings, one that sits on top of the stern rail and then one half way down. The Lower one accepts middle (horizontal) and upright (vertical) rail tube of the stern rail so it is locked in and doesn't sway. The two fittings are offset so that the bracket is parallel with the center line of the boat and not off to the side as the stern rails are angled. The generator receiver is made so you can offer it up to it with your hand and set it in and not pinch your fingers:eek:

Only thing left is to get it chromed. :D

Sound and vibration are minimal even when in the cockpit.

Later,
Nels

I like what you have done. A artistic touch and a functional solution. What kind of air conditioner do you have? I have a 1988 Cat 30 mkII also, if you could post a few pics it would be great!
Thanks,

Hi,

Thanx, for the compliments. There was some old teak on the boat so I used it, figured it looked good with the metal also.

The AC is a mermaid 13.5 that the previous owner put in. I need to make some wire shelves to go over the top of it so I can store more in the locker without it being up against the unit.

The outlet comes out over opening to the ice box. The inlet is in the aft berth.

The Honda runs the AC fine but for some reason doesn't want to run the reverse cycle heat. That's ok, here in North Texas we rarely need that and we have a small electric heater unit when we do.

The small tube running over the blue float cushion is a venturi effect line to lift the condensate from the pan below the unit. When the pump is circulating water it pulls from the pan.

The outlet is behind the Coke bottle.

The inlet is there on the right.

Regards,
Nels

Nels,
Nice set up. I want a few options to consider when I put an
AC unit in our boat. Thanks for the pics!
