Wouldn't ya know that as soon as I post, I find out everything is fine (thankfully) You see...I personally am not a panic-er. Dealing with my mother however, can strike panic into the hearts of the most even keeled people alive. They are fine. 35 miles off the coast going 3 knots. I suppose they truly are in the calm after the storm. The coast guard (yes my mom called in the coast guard) Initiated a radio net, and we got the info we needed to get a good nights rest. When they arrive they will anchor out, and await daylight to go through customs.

they may never get off the boat!

FT Lauderdale to Freeport was about 6 hours

by ship when I made my first and only trip. 20 knots of wind on the port bow going out and flat calm coming back. I reckoned it to be about 100 miles or more I would expect that it would take 24 hours or more to make the passage by sailboat and somewhat less by powerboat. Glad that "all's well that ends well". Nothing got broke and nobody got hurt. It was a great passage.

Made the trip mmmm, lets just say...a long time ago in a 24 footer. Gaff rigged wooden centerboarder...no winches and no electronics other than a transistorized portable RDF. Skipper was my sailing mentor and a hard core sailor who almost never ran his engine. Took us three days to cross and the stream pushed us almost as far northerly as we made easterly. Great trip for a kid on leave from the Vietnam era Army.
