Captains, What is the best product you've found to remove those un-sightly black scuff marks causesd by rubber soled shoes. Regular boat wash doesn't seem to work very well. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Chip Langan S/V Nautical Rose

BLACK RUBBER SOLED SHOES?!

First and foremost, any black soled shoes should not be allowed on the boat (unless you have company of the opposite sex). This should not be a problem in the first place. With a little elbow grease and Ivory liquid soap, they should come off. If not, a light compound should do the trick. Do what I do. Make sure guests know what kind of shoes etc... are acceptable/necessary for sailing on your boat. Non-boat types will appreciate knowing what to expect. Scott Shackelford S/V Sundancer, C

Scuff marks

Chip; Acetone will take those marks off, as well as the scuffs from the dock. Put a little wax over the spot after the acetone to reseal the gelcoat.

Just a tip: Doc Martens are not usually considered the best boat shoes! :) LaDonna

Try this stuff

Chip.. I Canada we can buy a product called "goof-off". It is normally used to clean up paint drops or overspray. I have found that it is much less caustic than acetone and usually does a great job. You should be able to find it in a Home Depot. Scott III Short
