US Yachts

US Yachts were sailboats built by Bayliner. Before that, late 70’s until about 1981 they were branded as Buccaneer’s. I have a 1979 brochure that has limited information, but it doesn’t have a 21’ model in it. There is the 18’ 22’ 25’ 27’ 29’ 305 and I think a 33’. Do a search for Buccaneers as well as US Yachts. I have seen some owner group website’s in the recent past. I hate to admit it, but I owned a 79’ Buccaneer 180. In general, Buccaneers, and to some extent the US yachts don’t have a very good reputation as very good sailing vessels. The original designs from the early 70’s were built as a response to the gas crises of 1971? They were roomy, ugly, and slow. Meant to appeal to power boaters. The newer designs came out in about 1978, and were better looking as well as better sailing. One or two of the boats were designed by Peterson along the lines of IOR racers of the day. I think these were the 29’ and 33’. I may be off in my details because my memory is not what it used to be.

go to www.trailersailor.com

look for posts from a guy named Jeff (I think he is from Indiana) He has links on his post to US Yachts brochures, etc. The US Yacht is a different line than the Buccaneers (thank God).

Buccaners vs US Yachts

The change to the newer designs happend a year or two before the change of name (1981?) to US Yachts. The last couple years of the Buccaneers are basicaly the same boats as the US Yachts. The older Buccaneers though, were different.
