U.S. State of Residency while cruising

Only thing close is if you bought a boat, car, anything I guess out of the state and paid no or less than the 6% sales tax that Florida applies to purchases the state is going to want the difference when you register the item. This is no different than any other state I've had to deal with fortunately most had an exemption for military folks.

I'm pretty sure you are correct. If you buy a boat somewhere else and pay little or no sales tax, FL is going to assess you the difference between what you paid and the 6% FL state sales tax, IF you try and register the boat in FL. I believe you only have 30 days to do so, so that may be what the poster was referring to. But if you've owned a boat for some time (six months seems to be what I recall) then they don't assess sales tax. You'll still have your annual state registration though. We pay about $84 per year for our H336. I think that overall, it's probably one of the cheapest places to own a boat.
