I will be moving my boat from Sidney BC to Blaine Washington via San Juan s via north of Orcas Island and was wondering what are the U.S. customs points of entry close to Orcas Island

As far as i know, to sail into the usa, you need to have a visa, issued from the usa embassy in your country, no foreign sail boat, can land in the usa withou a visa. Unless, you claim a port of convenience.

I would call the US Customs service for an authoritative answer.

While Sailing in the San Juan's, we sailed to Vancouver Island, on our return we check back into the US at Friday Harbor.

Report in at Point Roberts

It used to be that Blaine was a reporting station but that option has gone away because "they're too busy" at the highway border crossing even though that crossing is within a short walking distance!

What they want now is for incoming boaters to clear at Point Roberts and call ahead so they can plan or prepare.

A good number for the Blaine "Small Boat Reporting Office" (which I guess they don't do anymore) is (800) 562-5943 but it would be better to get the Point Roberts direct-dial number which they could probably give you at the above (800) number.

Service Port Blaine: http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/toolbox/contacts/ports/wa/3004.xml (forget this link, go to the one below)

Also, to keep the boat "permanently" in Blaine you'll need a window sticker for it but hopefully the marina told you about that. Don't ask me what it is 'cuz I don't know, I just know that one is needed.

Good advice Wayne. Years ago I had a camera made in East Germany and was given a hard time trying to get it back into the US.
