Two years in the making

Well guys, after two years of working on getting a boat back into the water, I finally did it. When I first got it, my friend's thought I'd lost my mind! Yea, it needed a little work, but I saw it for what it could be and not how it was as I found it. I knew this boat had good bones and she wanted to get out the water again! Yesterday on Folsom Lake just outside of Sacramento, My friend Roy and I did it. Guys, I don't have to tell you the feeling of that first launch of the year. My boat sailed great! Her name is Fore Sail as in the golf term ( Fore ) cause I know nothing about sailing and I pray I don't get too close to your boat. I do plan on taking classes to learn how to sail. All I got to say is all I'm thinking of is my next time on my boat. I'll try to down load a few a pictures of before and after pictures of the boat. Take care guys and happy sailing!

Nicely done! A C22 is a great boat to learn and grow with. After that you will find that the boat will sail way beyond belief. I had a C22 that I bought after returning from live aboard cruising on an IP 38. I bought her just because of the fun and performance it offered. My wife and I went on 4 to 7 day trips during the summer and raced the Crusty Crab on weekends.
You have really made your boat into a pleasure to look at. Now enjoy all that hard work.

Monte, the smile on your face says it all!! Congratulations on a job well done. Bringing an old boat back to life is no small accomplishment. We did the same on a Catalina 22 years ago and she was a wonderful boat. We wish you many beautiful days and nights aboard your "new" boat.

Thanks Guys AND ( GALS ) For You Kind Words. This Boat Is All I Can Think About Right Now! I've Been Surfing The Web Looking For Parts I Need For The Boat. I Think Of All The Things I Want To Do To This Boat And I'm Just Smiling From Ear To Ear. Planing Trips In The Months To Come And Just Looking Forward To Good Times With Good Friends.

Nice boat!! I did the same. I looked all over New England with no luck then I noticed a lump in a neighboring yard. Hiding under a tarp for 15 years was a 1977 V25 that need work but was in near perfect condition. It was all I could think about. I had no money to purchase so I put what I had down and the owner allowed me to start working on it in his yard. Once tax returns came in home she came.

Buying, fixing and sailing(and teaching my family to sail) has been the most exciting thing I have done. Every trip is an adventure. She is always up for making memories.

Good luck and keep her wet!!

BTW...Sailing for dummies is a great read. Good winter reading to get you even more cranked up to sail. Pic of the crew minus the Admiral.

Congratulations Monte,

Nice job on the restoration and repairs! Enjoy your time aboard. Surely some of your web surfing has taken you to the Catalina site. Parts and information available and the group here.

It is a wonderful and fulfilling feeling to say "yes" when people ask whether you did the work yourself. Best Wishes!

There are still a lot of things I want to do for my boat! This kind of reminds me of my first car. My head is in the clouds on how this boat will be a year from now just like it was with my VW in 1975. I have to be careful about talking to my non boating friends. I can see the look in their eyes saying ( dude!!!! just shut up ). Ahhhh, what do they know! Thanks again guys for you kind words and encouragement! All the best, Monte

I knew I had crossed a line when I heard my wife tell one of our non-sailing friends...

".... yes,.... he can talk about the wind for hours....":)

That's what we're here for; if it weren't for my friends on SBO I'd have almost no one to talk to about sailing. Here in pontoon and bass boat central, buying a sailboat is treated like flying a French flag on your front porch.

As they say, one picture is worth a thousand words. Your 4 pics say it all.

Enjoy!

That's very cool, congratulations! Here's a couple of mantras: The boat steers from the rear... when in doubt let it out (sail trim tip)... release the sheets to stop (i.e. let the sails weathervane.) If you think about reefing... Do It. Stay away from personal watercraft and fishermen.
