hi all

Wanted to share two quick mods.

The first is for sailing off the wind. On the H26 there are no Genoa cars so the sheeting angle is not ideal on a reach or a run. Here is something I tried this weekend and it seems to work very well... also very inexpensive

I also installed this so my book is always handy

Tell us about the jib sheet modification thingy.

It is just a low friction ring tied to a quick release snap clip. The only “trick” is getting the length right so you sheet will want to hug the outside of the gunwale

Thanks G
That looks like it will help you trim the sheet closer when reaching. I might borrow that idea.

With my set up I’m going for the opposite. I want to trim the sheet outboard on a reach or run

For opening the slot, all you do is balance the jib sheet tension with the flying block location. A day sailing and playing the set-up will get you dialed in. Also you will find that when you pole out the head sail on down wind runs the sail shape is much better and is reflected in increased speed. I have used this set-up for the last 10 years under all wind conditions with no issues. Have fun, G.

Interesting. Have you been happy using a genoa on the H26 fractional rig?

Like Dewhunter have a light whisker pole and set the jib on the downwind. Hope to set up some new (used) spi gear this season - exciting will have a quick release on the tack as I often single hand.

Yes, I have a whisker pole. This worked very well, and it is not that hard to unclip the low friction rings but I do need to thread the sheet back through the standing block and that takes a few moments. So it is not an ideal set up. I'm going to try @dewhunter 's approach next. I think my low friction rings can be repurposed for a set up like his. I'll let you know if it works well on a reach.
