i'm placing my cabin panels back into our Hunter 306 and was wondering if anyone can tell me what type of silicone they used to hold the panel against the cabin frame? or what this product is.

last but not least where can I buy this?

Thanks for the help.

I see a section of cabin side with a gob of what could be silicone or polysulfide sealant.
It could be original or it could be a prior owner's work. No way to know.
What are you trying to glue to the cabin side?
Is this a "forever" install or a temporary fix pending further work?
A picture of the part your are attaching would help.

I'm puzzled by your question.
If you are putting bulkheads back into the boat, who took them out.
If they are different "panels", where did they come from and how were they attached?
Pictures would help.
same panels going back in. they are attached with small screws. i'm guessing that they used this stuff to hold it in place while they screwed them in. they can also function as support i guess.

It looks like it might also be butyl tape. The light grey stuff. It is sticky so could have been used to hold the panel in place, or maybe to act as a spacer. Maybe to waterproof, but why for an inside panel. It's not like a glue in that it doesn't harden and stuff can be pulled away from it. If it feels sticky and can be squeezed or pulled away like silly putty it's likely butyl. You can buy it at hardware stores or the poster Maine Sail on this site sells it, or used to. I like it to waterproof openings that use fasteners to hold the item in place, that is, where you don't need any adhesive for holding.

I doubt it is ordinary HW store silicone as that stuff does not have good adhesive properties.

It is more likely something like Dow 795, Silpruf, or something like 3M 4200.

If it was butyl tape, it would still be sticky and not break off like this stuff. Not sure what the gray drippy stuff is.

Could be the other way around. The screws were there to hold the panel while the glue dried.

If you goal is to simply hold the panel in place... I would go with something like liquid nails.

I recently removed my original T & H /plywood cabin flooring. It was held down with what appeared to be silicone caulking. That caulking was obviously just squirted on before the flooring was placed down. It held tenaciously and I had a very difficult time prying it up. As to whether it was a two part or one part silicone, I have no idea. Butyl tape will not secure your panels IMHO. You want an adhesive and not a sealant. Lots of adhesives out there.
