Two Part Epoxy-Does It Block Water Out?

Have filled a couple of rust spots on the keel with 3M two part epoxy followed by the annual coat of VC17. Question? Do I have to paint on anything else over the epoxy? Will the epoxy be enough to keep the water from entering? We are just talking about a couple of spots and I really don't want to purchase a quart of Interprotect 2000 just for a couple of rust spots. Thanks

Paul, I'm only familiar with the West system, but I think that you have done the right thing. Check it carefully in the fall when you haul it out.

U done good

Two-part epoxy makes an excellent water barrier. From the West System user manual (Epoxy barrier coating): http://www.westsystem.com/ Apply a minimum of two coats of WEST SYSTEM epoxy for an effective moisture barrier. Apply three coats if sanding is to be done. Moisture protection will increase with additional coats, up to six coats or about a 20-mil thickness. The 3-M products are virtually similar.
