Thanks Maine Sail, are there any acceptable standards or protection groups to help inform boaters about poorly manufactured items? It always bothers me to read about misleading labels.
All U Get
Sadly no, and I would not say those batteries are poorly manufactured just that the term "deep cycle" is a bit misleading when applied to some batteries...
Personally I would like to see the industry be honest in labeling but just like the car stereo manufacturers they lie/mislead, because they can.
Ideally I'd like to see labels similar to this
Light Duty Deep Cycle - Pseudo 12 deep cycle batteries G-24, 27, 31, 4D & 8D
Standard Deep Cycle - Golf, sweeper, scrubber, aerial lift, off grid solar etc.
Industrial Deep Cycle - 2000 + cycle industrial batteries such as Rolls etc..
It all relies on you the buyer to do the homework. Buying any battery where the reseller or manufacturer can not provide you with cycle life data, or a Puekerts constant, are two glaring reason to not purchase batteries from that vendor or relabel-er.
Lucky for you, you have GEL batteries, which are some of the best for deep cycling!! In fact I think yours came with the boat and are still going pretty strong.......
