Twin keel Hunter 27

I'm from the Netherlands and want to buy a Hunter 27 (built in 2006) with twinkeels (bilgekeel) draught 1.05 m: is the sailing performance the same as or worse then the performance of a Hunter with wingkeel draught also 1.05 M?

It just seems that the Hunter you are talking about is not the same Hunter that is manufactured here. When we cannot comment on something we usually remain silent.

I remember reading about the use of twin/bilge keel boats in Great Britian due to the outgoing tides leaving boats bottomed out, but I don't recall hearing about that design being used in the US by Hunter. Can you determine the country of origin? You should be able to get more information from there. In terms of performance, if you use the Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF) handicapping rules in your area you should be able to get an estimate of how it compares to boats you're familar with. Alternatively, you may be able to contact your local rating organization and see if they have any information on it.

Hunter 27 twin keels are made in Florida. Check out the Hunter Factory Tour post over at Sailnet, scroll down around 30 pics and there are two pictures of a twin keel 27.

I walked by the hunter dealer in Ipswich England, and the Hunters looked the same as the ones in the US, but some of them had twin keels... I think they are made for big tide changes....but I am not sure..

English Hunter confusion.

It is easy to confuse the issue because there are/were two Hunter manufacturers in England: http://www.hunterassociation.org.uk/site/ha_history_of_hunter_boats_and_their_yachts.php .

Hunter U.S. does have a plant in Portland, England and does make a bilge-keel boat. Almost certainly it is a "U.S." H27 with a twin keel that is being asked about. And I think the PHRF comparison idea is the best we have heard. Finding someone who has sailed both keel types could be difficult.

We could also suggest that you do a sea trial. If you like how she sails then there is your answer. If you are buying it to race then I would think you would look for a fin keel.
