I just recently bought a 1995 Hunter 430 and am in the process of installing new TV's, one in the forward cabin and one in the salon. Is there a specific antennae that is reliable and gets good performance? Thanks.

Check out Shakespere products. I was looking for a Sirius satellite antenna and remember seeing a digital TV antenna.

Boatenna

I got one of these this past spring. It works extremely well. I send it up the mast on the burgee halyard. Obviosly, the higher the better.

Get an omnidirectional anntena

with an amolifier an add a splitter. The ones designed for marine use have better protection from the elements and are usually smaller in diameter. You can mount it on the mast but I prefer to mount it on a cockpit arch or pole. The height does not seem to make a difference in reception. The advantage of an omnidirectional is that you don't have to orient it or adjusted when you change position. We find the reception varies from cruising ground to cruising ground. Perhaps is the distance to transmitting towers or the power of the signal. Ironically enough we get better reception at our usual anchorages than we get at our slip. We have an inverter aboard and it allows us to plug and watch the TV while underway; it is good to be able to watch the weather forecast with current radar display on those stormy days when you are trying to figure which way to go. Regular broadcasts and DVD movies are nice to have at anchor.

Worked great!

With the boat docked in Stamford, CT, we get all the NYC stations. We're talking about a good 30 miles distance as the crow flies. I'm hoisting the boatenna up to the top spreader. With regular rabbit ears, we got nothing.

Shippy...

a Boatenna came with my H34. I changed the 300 ohm over to a 75 ohm cable and tie wrapped it to a down haul line. I run it up on the main halyard to inbetween the two spreaders and tie the down haul off on the guard ring over the dorages. From Northeast on a good evening I can pull in DC, York, Lancaster, and Phila stations besides Baltimore. On a bad day 11, 13, 24, and 45 are all you get and are fuzzy.

Check out Glomex

Ryan: Check out the Glomex antenna. They are suppose to be very good. There have been many suggest for these unit here in the past. They make a 10" unit that would be a good size for a sailboat.
