Anyone ever mounted a TV antenna of any and it worked very well. I have dish network at home and was thinking of using my box and a smaller mobile dish on my boot. Any ideals appreciated

Dish on a boot? Hmmm

Dish on a boat is too unstable from a pointing perspective.

I agree a satellite dish needs precise angle an orientation and that is not feasible in a boat that is in the water being used. On the other hand you may install a dish on a dock to be able to connect at the end of the day.

Unless it is a floating dock in which case it too may have a little swing to it making a dish unusable.

Most slip holders I know mount the dish on a piling.

Rocking boat makes sense, how about those TV antenas that pick up UHF digital channels out there

Dredging up this old thread b/c I just bought a marine TV antenna.

Any ideas on where to mount it? On top of the Bimini is no good as it would throw a shadow on the solar panel.
Thanks

My TV antenna is on the front of the mast about 10 feet from the top. I am not sure if it would be better at the very top so that possibly the mast would not shadow it.

I put the new, smaller "sea watch" on the port spreader; about 20' AWL. Works well enuff. 16-18 channels out of the 24-26 available

Mine is almost at the top of the mast on the front. It's mounted low enough so it does not block the anchor light from any direction. It is a Majestic UFO Antenna, it costs a little more than some of the other brands but it has a smaller foot print and in my opinion works better

We had the UFO on top of the mast and took it down this summer, the guts inside had rusted away. I'm looking to mount one lower on the mast or on a spreader. Anyone have a picture of any lower installs?

To get Dish or DirectTV you need a tracking satellite antenna. KVH makes the best ones. MTgey are expensive but work in offshore conditions. Mine has kept lock in 6 foot waves. Once you have the Anrenna, then the box is added to your bill for the monthly price like an additional box at your house.

i have the sea watch mounted on the stern rail to port and it gets about 35 channels here on the bay ....i may raise it to about 5 ft above the aft coaming but have not made up my mind yet

Good to hear that the stern rail is a good spot. If that doesn't work, I'll try the spreader like deltaten
Got any pics of your mounting?
Thanks
