Turning space required for H30 88-94

We live at the end of a canal that is about 40 feet wide, seawall-seawall.Will I be able to spin (using forward/reverse and prop wash) a H30(91) with 2 blade in that space or do I have to suffer the indignity of backing down the canal?!Patrick in Port Charlotte, FL

I have had to turn my Hunter 30 Nauti Dreams in one such canal after having taken down the mast,very doable, use low rpm and a few extra eyes on the first goround. Good luck.Ron

should be able to turn her in very close quarters.

the thirty will turn a tight cirle. don forget you may not have to turn around every time you enter or leave. and you can use the docks or pileings with spring lines to turn close in to the dock. practice on calm days . you will be fine.

Pratice while it is calm

If you have a strong breeze coming down the canal you will have problems getting the bow to turn into the wind. Then you will need to know how to use spring lines to help turn you around.

Prop Walk

Hi Patrick,While I'm not familiar with exactly the boat you're talking about, my 1979 Hunter 30 has a fairly pronounced prop walk to starboard when in reverse until she gains sternway. I think most people see prop walk as a "bad" thing, but I've actually been able to use it to my advantage in tight turning situations like the one you're describing. I don't think you'l have a problem - just follow the advice of the others and go slowly. Good luck.

In her own length

You should be able to turn her in her own length using the prop wash technique. My first ASA instructor included practicing just that technique with my 290 as part of the course. A little practice and it is easy.I tend to dock Med style, and the technique has served me beautifully all over the west and east coasts of FL for over a year and a half. It is only tricky when there is a rip tide.
