I am looking to replace the lowere shroud turnbuckles with open turnbuckles. Any advice would be helpful.

Yes, replace them ALL. Since you said "replace with open turnbuckles" may I assume you have closed ones now? If so, get rid of the all. I had one fail when i was replacing my standing rigging. Closed body turnbuckles are a nightmare waiting to happen.

Stay away from the cheap ones. I tried to save a few bucks when I re rigged a few years ago. Mine stripped out and my mast fell on me (not litterally) on a windy night while about 4 miles out from my marina. They where open, the ones I replaced were closed.
