tuning rigging and sails

I have a '79 CAT 22, and I know it is not the fastest boat on the water, but when other Catalinas and Capris pass me up, I know that I should be doing better.I believe the problem is with the way my rigging and sails are set. The location of the jib "pullys" on the track, the out haul on the main, and must be other stuff too.Can anyone suggest a source for info on how to get the boat up to the speed it should be going?

You need instruction on sail trim

You need instruction on sail trim. I am a book learner. I read a book called, "Sail Power", which gave me good instruction on sail shape, sail trim, and rigging. Check out West Marine's book section or Amazon.com.

You might also want to check out "A Manual of Sail Trim" by Stuart Walker. It was highly recommended to me by my college sailing coach, and over the last decade, I've re-read it at least once every 18 months. It's pretty technical (if you like all the physics and aerodynamics stuff about sailing, you'll really like this book), but it's a great book on sail trim.
