Tufted topper??
When we acquired our Irwin 38' CC we were thrilled with the expectation of comfort in the aft cabin queen berth as compared to the vee berth in our Catalina 30. We slept aboard quite frequently and it soon became apparent that the 5" foam mattress was not providing the degree of comfort we expected. We were ready to go for a new mattress when at our local Wal-Mart we noticed a foam rubber mattress pad about 2" thick and selling for about $20. The rubber is slit into small sections. We decided to risk $20 and bought one. We spread it on top of the mattress and trimmed it to fit. What an improvement! We quickly forgot about replacing the mattress.
