TRYING TO REPLACE (standing) RIGGING

I have a Cal 30 thats a vet. Built in 68 its one of the older Cal's. my previous owners didnt seem to give it too much attention and i could assume none to the rig. As of now i suspect the rig has had over 10 years but im not sure. most of the standing rigging looks good with exception to some corrosion on the turnbuckles, but the swedges look clean and the cables havnt been too stretched or look like theyve had any "meat hooks". Anyne have any other suggestions on what to look for or sites i could check out to indicate any other problems i could look for in an aging rig?

If it has swaged fittings and is 10 years old it needs replaced. You can not inspect inside a swage. If you replace with mechanical fittings, like Hi-Mod(my favorite) you can take them apart and inspect to make sure nothing is too corroded or cracked. It is not expensive to do it yourself. Look on riggingonly.com It will be like $150 for each of your upper shrouds and $130 for lower shrouds with a fitting. If you buy turnbuckles add whatever they cost. That includes two mechanical fittings and the cable. The cable is not that expensive, $1.70 a foot (1/4")or something like that.
Also if you have closed turnbuckles, you want to replace those for the same reason as the swaged fittings; you can't see inside to inspect.
If I were you I would take out your chain plates and clean them and inspect to make sure there are no cracks in them. Then I would rebed them with butyl tape instead of 5200 or whatever caulk people are using these days. Butyl can last 30 years or more.

You may want to just replace it to be safe.

If you have the measurements for all of the standing rigging I suggest that you contact Seco South. They did a lot if not all of the rigging for Hunter Marine. I have found that they are significantlly less expensive than anyone else.

You would probably need to remove the rigging and send it to them for duplication.

the hull should be hand laid and well built so i wouldnt worry too much about it
