Trying to find source for Identification, my boat

Thanks for reading and offering any information you may offer. Several years ago I purchased a 17' fiberglass boat with a swing keel, wood mast, boom, and rudder/tiller (swings with a pull rope). I was wondering if there might be a single book or website with descriptions and pictures of old boats for identification (or anyone out there who might have an expert opinion. I have pictures somewhere that I could scan and e-mail. Boat was previously registered in North Ga. when I purchased it but make was shown as unknown. front of boat looks similar to ODay and has open rearward facing storage locker under mast fitting area. I am preparing to restore this boat and would like to place type ID on sail and a hull ID plate for future reference. It would also help to know make while trying to communicate with vendors about sail kits and trailers.

forgotten detail

Forgot to mention that this boat appears to be designed for water ballast, as it has a threaded 1 1/4 inch or so plug in the deck near the center of the boat, with no easy outlet. When purchased I hadn't heard of this but understand now that several boats utilized this?

searched it all over, boat has been painted several times. No sign of numbers anywhere. Thanks for the reply

Hello Dave Johnston, If the boat is wooden try Woodenboat Magazine by looking at their web site woodenboat.com They have a reasearch department that I contacted using a phone number on the web site. Also, the book Sailboat Classes of North America by F. S. Blanchard is a 1968 listing of many classes of boats including descriptions and info on the number built, etc. A picture would help.
