CAPTAIN JOHN EDWARDS
So many times I see on this site people wishing to go cruising or spending more time on their boats. They always seem to have a list of why nots or will do's for the future tomorrows. Well, I have made a business of cashing in on peoples tomorrows and why nots. My wife and I opened a sail charter business on Cape Cod. It sort of forced us to go sailing because we were being paid for it and to upkeep the boat. Guess what? At first it was a chore with licenses and insurances and all the headaches that go along making a new business grow. But we have benefited far more then any of our guests. Our tomorrows never seemed to arrive our social calendar took precedents over the boat. However, the boat has become a place of spiritual solitude,(*chapel like), our friends and guest return time and time again to be bathed in the solice of sailing and the feeling of being part of creation and feeling its breath fill the sails and ones lungs. Even when we are not on the boat friends and even strangers aide in the care and enjoyment. If lines are lose a helping hand tightens them. If a friend needs solice they drive down and have coffee on the boat. Those of us that have sailboats are truly blessed even with the headaches they cause but the benefit they instill surpasses all their problems. If any one thinks we are daft let me know. But I have some hard facts. This month alone our little business had over 4000 hits. as of today our charters for the month of July are booked out. SO is the first week of August. A four day sail race in May to Nantucket is also paid and booked. We just received a booking for a sail in June. The message here... if you have a sailboat use it; for yourself and others. We dont get fat on the profits, they're slim but we do give regularly to charities. Ain't sailing great.
