Has anyone tried to remove the top of the engine box on a H-30 (1990)? I have to replace the Mixing Elbow on my Yanmar 2GM20(F) and it would seem to be easier if I could access the engine from the top. My guy at our marina says it does not remove and I'm having difficulty in seeing how to deal with the steps below the companion way. I would appreciate any thoughts.

On our steps below the companionway, on our 1990 H-33.5, the step assembly has two spring loaded pins that act as hinges. Just pulling tese pins outwards (sideways) will release the steps and they can be moved out of the way. To access the mixing elbow, I have thought of cutting an access panel on the rear bulkhead and making it a removable access panel as it has on the port side. I don't know why Hunter didn't do that originally. It would make access to the engine and mixing elbow so much easier. I just haven't done it yet. And after 13 years with this boat, and at 76 Yrs. old, I may never do it. But, give it consideration.

Thanks for your input. My steps are a different configuration. I'm a little apprehensive to cutting another access door, but it would be handy. If the top would come loose access would be easy.:-X

Mixing elbow has been repaired and thanks to advice from Navigator97 cut an access opening in the back of the engine compartment and was able to access and remove elbow. Opening will seal up nicely. Thanks for the advice. Worked great!
