I just tested our Mobile Hotspot and it links up to 15 devices.
Down 10 , Up 3.5 mbps.

That is linking to Free Wifi and on standard Wifi frequency and not 5G frequency.

Not for Mobile Hotspot that you pay for.

@JamesG161 I have a mobile hotspot also with unlimited data, however, it only uses the highspeed access for up to 20 Gb - then it drops down to the next level until the next billing cycle. I find working through my mobile hotspot, and being careful, gives me about 2 weeks worth of highspeed access. Then once it drops down - it's almost useless. Sure, it's an unlimited plan, but really at the slower speeds it's not useable. So it's truly only a 20Gb system.

Does yours not do this? I've been looking but I can't find a better hotspot provider than the one I have. If yours does not do this, I would be very interested in learning who you use.

My ATT phone plan provides unlimited data on the phone (or the iPad) and a 20 Gig cap on hot spots. As a result I pick and choose which device to use for what task. No streaming video on the computer, the iPad gets that job. Some emails I read on the iPhone some on the computers.

The one time I got data capped was the result of too many videos and too many photos swapped between devices via email or text. A data plan for the iPad solved that problem and we now use Airdrop to move files and photos between devices on board.

When I was researching a Wifi Antenna I found most of them seem to have the same guts, just different packaging from different companies. Given this will be used in a Marine environment I chose one marketed to the marine world and was readily available. The Wave Rogue from Defender got my money. About the same price as the CCrane.com one.

I have been total Apple, since before you. I was an Apple Partner wayyyy long ago [ca. 1983].

If you check my link from Amazon above in my post#24, you can find all the Antennae, Hotspots, etc in the other buyers link below it.

I am not looking for a shore line Free Wifi, so to do that you need a Beam Antenna that must be pointed to the Free spot.
That Beam Antenna is also shown in the other Buyers links.

I've got a MiFi, and two cell phones all with the 20Gb cap as hot spots (what does unlimited really mean - oh right, marketing). The phones don't work as hot spots as well as the MiFi. The cap is really only a problem when working. Apparently Teams is a remarkable data hog. No matter what I turn off, it uses enormous bandwidth. But I can only turn off my internal video really, if I'm in a conference call with others, their video may be coming through. It seems (although I haven't exactly measured it) that one hour long Teams conference call uses more bandwidth than watching a Netflix movie.

I use an external SSD hard drive to move files about between devices.

What's airdrop?

Airdrop is an Apple proprietary protocol for transferring files between two Apple devices in the same area. Since the data is passed between the devices it doesn’t need to transit out using internet bandwidth.

I have heard good about that one too. I was going by reviews from both RVers and yachties.
No hanging iPhone in a plastic bag in the rigging for me; sorry.

My Verizon ‘unlimited’ plan supposedly caps at 30-50gb but since November I don’t think I felt any throttling using only the iPhone. I can’t complain about stream speeds or quality

It certainly seems like that system would be better at pulling in the marina wi-fI signal than the built in antenna in a laptop. I get way better signal strength if I set my laptop on the cabin top…but not too comfy to work fitting there.

If the marina wi-fI sucks, it won’t make it better, but it should help you maximize whatever is available. Maybe even pull in wi-fI from better sources if there are any around (restaurants, coffee shops, etc.)

What I read was that running on 12VDC the CCrane system draws about 2A off the house bank. The computer ‘charger’ (not a charger per se but a battery eliminator/‘car adapter’) draws 4A. So that’s what I’m working with.
