My boat is fitted with a Navman Wind 3100 wind instrument. It can no longer tell the differenc between true and apparent wind and gives the same wind speed on both instrument settings. Any ideas on what might be wrong and how I can fix it? Neil

I wonder...

If this is more of a parameter setting than a mechanical thing. Do your wind instruments work in conjunction with other instruments such as your knot meter? If your wind meter is indicating wind direction and wind speed then I would say that everything is working fine. It could be a parameter setting or it could be that your boat's knot meter is not working or not sending data to the wind computer. Just a thought.

Read the manual?

You should be able to recalibrate the instrument; if it was working once, you should be able to reset it; I have to do mine occasionally. BEO

I would agree, check the speedo

I think the difference between true and apparent wind are calculated based on the wind speed, wind direction, and knot meter. Are all three instruments working correctly?

Mea Culpa - I'm to blame

The knot meter is not working, weed on the impeller I am sure. I tend use my GPS for speed and had forgotten that the knot meter feeds the wind instrument!! Thanks.
