So multi hulls dont' point well

because they go too fast ( apparent moves forward with increased speed) or because of something about their design. Or how about this. Example is one of those flat bottom mono hull sleds, the 40 to 60 footers, that plane close hauled at say 15 -20 knts. They tack and sheet in starting on the new tack at say 12knt. ( these are random values) Do they have to fall off some as the boat jumps up from 12knts to 18 or 20knts?

Scott, if you get a chance to look at

Ice boats they always trim as close hauled, unless completely off the wind. They can reach at close to 100 in 20 kts.

True or Apparent Wind

Clyde has it right, if the boat is moving the wind is apparent. That it appears to be something else. DDW in 10 knots the wind appears to be 5 knots if the boat is moving at 5 knots.

Ross that is better example

with the ice boat. They are always close hauled because apparent wind is always on the nose, even when running 90 degrees to true. To how high can an ice boat point? Something like 75 degrees off of true? .
