Trouble lifting Oday 19 rudder

I am having lots of trouble raising the swing up rudder on my recently acquired '80 Oday 19. It is a real bear to get it started up, as there seems to be no leverage - the haul line runs straight up the back of the rudder, then between the cheekplates bolts. It is a recently replaced rudder from D&R, and looks like solid fiberglass. I tried backing off on the bolts which helped a bit. Is this a common problem? Is there a fix? I am starting to think of adding a pair of triangular extensions back from the cheek plates with a sheeve to redirect the haul line! As I moor off a shallow beach, I have to tug the rudder up every time I come in! Thanks!

I am pretty sure the line you speak of is to haul it down after it kicks up, not to haul it up. Let me know if you're idea works hauling it up for the shallow mooring. The one time I moored in a tidal shoal, I just took mine off cause I wasn't sure it would clear when the hull went to ground. Mayabe another line could be fixed onto the stern side of the top of the rudder for hauling it up?
