I'm thinking about changing my sanitation hoses on my H 34.
Does any one know how much trident hose I will need to purchase?
I've tried a search and found nothing about length only width.
The boat is an hour and half away.
I was thinking about 4 feet would be enough. What about the vacuum side which hose should be used for that job?

OK Don, Its your lucky day! (I hope)

On 6/23/2009 I ordered 20 feet of Trident Sanitation Hose 102, White, 1.5 Premium Wht Sani Hose ($10.79/ft) from the Sail Boat Owners Store. I just went out in the shed and still have a piece 6 feet long. (ordered too much!). Can't say enough good about it. smell disappeared like magic.

Because we are in seawater, the intake hose tends to permeate as well and we changed it periodically. Finally last year I changed from Shields 148 to Shields 135 to fix that. I bought 10 feet of 3/4 in hose in order to run from the intake valve to the suction side of the head pump. The remaining was to create the requisite loop between the pump output and inlet to the head bowl via a vented Marelon loop. In as much as you are in fresh water, the 148 is probably ok for you and better because it comes in white, where the 135 is black. My wife says its ugly. At least it doesn't smell as much. What does still smell periodically is due to dead critters in the bowl rim that takes other flushing procedures. Some day I may have to convert to fresh water flush, but then I will need a better way to inject salt as we have and Electroscan MSD system.

Just wanted to clarify, I changed all of the hose to and from the holding tank to the Trident stuff. The original plumbing was rather complex with a large loop and the part that went to the deck pump out as well as the head discharge to the holding tank. It seemed that there is enough sloshing around that all the hoses would be subjected to contact with black water, so it was all prone to permeation eventually. I know its a lot more material than you may have been expecting to purchase, but you may find eventually it takes complete replacement. This stuff is really hard to bend so PVC elbows properly clamped will make a tighter installation.

I forgot to mention also that the vent line hose from the top of the holding tank should be converted to the Shields 135 as well.

I'm planning on changing all the hoses but starting with the one from the head to the tank.
The pump out hoses should be changed as well both the overboard and the deck. Maybe i should remove the overboard system and just stay with the deck pump out.

My two cents.....don't remove the overboard pump out. Even "coastal cruisers" can be three miles out for a cruise, and need to empty. Although we are primarily chesapeake bay cruisers, the trip to Block island gets us out far enough to pump overboard.

When I bought the boat there was a new holding tank to be installed (old one already removed). Removed the Y-valve and overboard discharge thru-hull was capped as we have an abundant of pump-out locations on the Chesapeake Bay. Less hose to buy and maintain. Hoses betweem head and tank and between tank and deck (and vent hose) replaced with the white stuff. No odors ever since.

Now I know why I have that 6 foot extra piece in the shed. I bought the ElectroScan after the hose, but prior to installing it with the old holding tank. Then I found I no longer needed the piece from the tank to the deck pump out since I now treat and discharge. I'm sure I will need it someday.
