I am replacing all my sanitation hoses and want the best odor free hose as possible. Does anyone know if Sealand Odorsafe of Trident Odor shield hose is better?

Found my answer on another thread from Peggy. Trident is best. HAs anyone used this? How difficult is it to bend? I saw some at the local marine store but it is very stiff.

Trident

The Sealand odorless is a bad imitation of some hose that used to be imported from Australia that was very good but also very difficult to work with.

The Trident hose is the best choice now. I used it exclusively in my head rebuild. In addtition you should be using Odorlos head treatment religiously to combat the odors. All hoses will eventually get smelly but Odorlos is the best for preventing this. I have been using it for years.

The trident, although stiff, is much easier to work with than the Sealand.

Also, buy Peggy's book. It is a great resource for this klind of work.

Not just any Trident hose, only 101 or 102

101/102 are identical except for color...they're both double walled rubber hose that has a biocide in the rubber formula. Not only is it now the most odor permeation resistant hose on the market, but it's also a bit softer than SeaLand OdorSafe, making it easier to work with.

But as with any hose, never heat to bend or force it to bend tighter than it wants to bend willingly...doing so will cause it to kink and/or damage the hose. If you have tight bends, break the hose and use an inline radius fitting.

It's ok to warm the hose a bit to get it onto fittings, just be careful not to overheat it...and use a little dishwashing liquid, or better yet K-Y, to lubricate. Do NOT use any sealant...double clamp all connections, with screws on opposite sides of the hose...or at least 90 degrees apart if access makes 180 impractical.

And btw, warming the old hose will make it a lot easier to get off the fittings (unless some fool has used 5200 on 'em...in which case the fitting is toast too).

These retailers have the best prices I've found:

Blue Water Ship's Store in Foley, AL., at around $6/foot. Ask for Scott and tell him I sent you. Phone is 251.943.4179

Hydraulic Supply co. in FL . Their phone is (800) 432-6413. Someone on a list I subscribe to claims their price was $4.09 per foot.

thank you

Thank you for the feedback. I pulled out both bladders that have been in the boat for 25 years and am working on getting the old hose out. Even though I had to go to a smaller tank I purchased a Ronco plastic tank system. I appreciate the leads on hose and will order the trident. When all is done it should eliminate the smell.

After you get it all out and before you put in anything new...

You need to get rid of the residual odor.

Buy a gallon of PureAyre http://www.pureayre.com and a 2 liter pump garden sprayer (works just as well as their ultra pricy "mister" for 10% of the price). Clean every surface, nook and cranny...let it dry...then spray every surface, nook and cranny with PureAyre and let that dry, leaving all hatches and lockers open so that plenty of fresh air can circulate, for at least 24 hours.

As long as you're gonna do that much, clean--really CLEAN--your bilges with plenty of detergent and water followed by THOROUGHLY flushing ALL the dirty water out...use a bucket, sponge, wet vac etc to remove any remaining water...let the bilges dry...and spray them down with PureAyre too.

Your boat is gonna smell just wonderful!

Thanks Again. I have your book on order and should have it in a few days. I look forward to reading all the advice. The boat already smells better just getting the tanks out. But I will definitely order the pureayre.
