Very short question please. How much Clorox should be used to treat ballast tank. In the past I had access to pool tabs that I smashed and used about one quarter tab.

Thank you,

That's less than I used. I used 1 gallon, but I also filled up with muddy river and Lake Erie water, so i was trying to be safe. At the end of the season when I drain my ballast I don't have any remaining smell of bleach from the vent, so I think it's pretty much used up by then.

Thanks for advice on water treatment

My buddy gave me a chlorine tablet for pools. As in the past I normally use half a tab and it worked fine, still Han a little Oder at year end drain. One gallon seems to be too much but you know more than I. I have been told that an excessive amount will burn out the seal on the water ballast plug?

Thanks again, I just put in today with a beautiful forecast for this weekend.

Never bothered to put anything in the ballast tank in my 23.5. I keep it in the lake all season long. Never had a problem with buildup or smell in the tank. I'm guessing it usually takes light and/or heat to grow stuff.

sesmith;

You must be a luck man. down here in the south without any treatment, you open that bailer up to allow air into the tank without the water being treated, you better run for them that hills.

I have been in youyr neck of the woods during winter and was it cold. We had a Capri 26 on a cradle. We washed the boat before making the trek. Ran into heck of a snow storm and to boot, the boat was being lifted off the cradle and one thing I never have seen since then. The cradle came up to with the boat as it was frozen to the hull.

I had the same question for H240 about 2 months ago. My answer came from Hunter Marine (Customer Information) to use swimming pool chlorine. I got my supply at Wal-mart. Read the labels. Different strength and ingredients mix, for different price. The
Chem/Water mix is for humans to swim in. (so much per-thousand-gal.) I double the mix to add to my ballast. So far, I have had good results. 73's, KI4ARJ (Sargeant Mc)
