Having said all that, like the original poster I would want to drive along with the load if it were practical but would certainly avoid telling them what to do!
That's pretty much all I'm saying. The owner can follow the truck if he wants to. The trucker doesn't own the road. Besides, no trucker in his right mind is going to tell the owner "stop following me"! It's insane to think otherwise.

The world has changed in this area for the worse in the 40 odd years I have been serving customers
We design and build millwork and kitchens and do so in a custom fashion for several hundred clients per year.
Choosing a kitchen design is somewhat subjective. Just like designing the interior of a house. Personal ideas of planned use and esthetics.

But do they actually come into the shop and watch you run the saws/routers/spray booth?

Nothing worse than someone looking over your shoulder. Could even lead to mistakes because you are less focused on the task.
That is the kind of micro managing, real or perceived, that incompetent managers do.
Doesn't matter if the manager is actually giving input, or just continually hovering around.

The owner can follow the truck if he wants to.
The question was whether you SHOULD.. Not if you CAN.

no trucker in his right mind is going to tell the owner "stop following me"
You clearly don't know any of the truckers I know. They would not welcome it, and if they felt they we being micromanaged by someone, even someone who is also a trucker, they definitely would put you in your place. "Do you wanna drive the truck??!! No? OK then.. Go away and let me do my job"
(more than a few would say it a bit more forcefully than that)

I once had a guy walk into the bays to watch a mechanic repair their truck... They were told they had a choice.. Get out of the bay and let the tech do their job or we tow it outside and you can have a wrecker take it to another shop.

Maybe your doctor will let you watch when he does surgery ?

Few people do their best work while being directed by some else. If I were the truck driver I would refuse the job under those circumstances. Are you going to tell him when to keep driving, in weather?

Hello again
Quick question... Is it common for owners to supervise/travel alongside the tractor trailer hauling their boat to the next destination or isn't common practice?
"Alongside"? Literally beside them? No, Follow at a safe distance, sure.

When my boat was transported from Charleston to a yard in New Orleans, the trucker called me from Charleston and insisted that the loading yard make some changes in the manner in which the mast was packaged & padded. He took photos after everything was satisfactory & loaded. Left Charleston around noon on Friday and had to stop at dusk due to transport regulations. He arrived in my hometown, approximately 45 miles north of New Orleans, late Saturday afternoon. He called me and I went to the truck stop to check on the boat & took the driver to wal mart so he could buy a few personal items & snacks. Met him on Sunday AM & took him to breakfast. Couldn’t move the boat until Monday because the yard was closed. I met him at the truck stop Monday AM and led the way to the yard to avoid a very steep bridge and a couple of sharp radius exit ramps. Driver was very appreciative & needless to say, I was very appreciative of him looking out for my boat on the loading end in Charleston, where I could not be present.
Ideally, you should be present at shipping marina and receiving marina; however that is not always possible. I think it would be very boring following a truck for a considerable distance; however, it’s your boat and your dime, so do what you wish.

I would and tell the trucker so he would know why that Honda seems to be following. Are we there yet?
