Traveler?

I got my new stays on and rigged my mariner 19 today so I am ready to head to the lake as soon as I get a free day.

The only question I have is how the traveler works on this boat and why, exactly it is needed? . There is a cleat and a pulley on each side of the stern and a pull on the end of the boom. Anyone have pictures of their traveler setup?

I would google it and look at pictures. Unless there is a dedicated track, I would guess it uses a line run from each side of the boom to the block on the side, through the block to the cleat on the other side. That would allow you to haul the boom to the windward side.
Basically, that is what you want, some control to haul the boom to windward. You can also rig it any way you want.
The traveler is needed for sail trim of the leech of the sail.
As you know from sailing smaller boats, you don't always have a traveler. I don't know the Mariner 19.

The MARINER did not have a traveler! Those blocks are for the mainsheet and the cleats are the aft mooring cleats. I don't know if I have a picture of the Mariner mainsheet. I am assuming that your boat is1973 or older? If newer, those block may be for a Spinnaker? I sketched up a drawing of the mainsheet rigging, any MARINER owners that want to chime in with a correction, go ahead. The newer ones (1974-79) had mid-boom sheeting, but then most likely would not have those blocks near the stern on top of the cockpit coamings.

Based on the pictures from your earlier post, it looks like your boat has a "mid-boom" mainsheet set up. Maybe this will help. http://oday.sailboatowners.com/images/kb/pdf/797.pdf
I could be that it originally had a Crosby style mainsheet and when the mid boom set up was added later they just didn't bother to remove the old hardware.

Thank you schart (and everyone else) that Oday manual matches mine exactly and, I actually had it rigged correctly.
For the record, my boat is actually an 81 spindrift and nother a true Oday, but Spindrift only made 78 of them before Stuart Marine bought the molds.
