Traveler working load

I'm looking at replacing my current traveler car on my 1986 Hunter 25.5I'm having a hard time finding any info on the working load/breaking load of anend sheeting main. I would like this info to assist me in the purchase of the proper size traveler car.Anyone have an idea?

is your car and track? I have Rutgersen on my 86' 25.5. I believe that the load at 15 knots isapproximately 850 lbs. There is a formula in the Harken book, (to figure out) but complex. I believe that Schaefer has a load chart in their catalog. I believe that Ronstan has a car that will fit Rutgersen "T" track. I am still looking ioto that.Good LuckDave

Traveler for 25.5

Hi Greg,I replaced my traveler last year with a Schaefer system: 1-1/8" track, dual sheave 4-wheel car and dual sheave control blocks, yielding a 3-to-1 purchase. This system meets spec for the boat -- we have used it in 20 knots with full main and 30+ with reef.Schaefer's catalog does have load specs, though I do not have it available right now.If you decide to go with a Schaefer system, try pyacht.com for pricing; they were pretty good when I bought the traveler and other Schaefer products.Dave Weir"Last Resort"

Question about traveler

My '85 Hunter 25.5 has a Schaefer traveler, but with locking pins instead of blocks and control lines. Does anyone know if I can purchase a car with blocks and lines to replace the manual car that is adjusted only with locking pins? (or, do I need to replace the complete traveler system?)Thanks.

Replace Traveler

Hi Neil,You can get blocks to fit the original Schaefer track. That might cost a little more than replacing the track and using the newer equipment, but it is also a little easier. A Rhode Island outfit named Rig-Rite (www.rigrite.com) makes compatable parts.The problem with using the newer cars and blocks on the old track is that the new track is 29mm and the old about 27mm. Schaefer will advise not to try this, so I did not. To compare prices for new stuff, I suggest pyacht.com or riggingonly.comDave Weir"Last Resort"
