On my H31 the traveller is on top of the cabin. In my old, smaller boat, I used the traveler to move the sail downwind to depower the boat. When I have tried to use the traveller on the H31 it just RUINS the sale shape regardless of which direction I go. Is that the whole point of the traveler on this boat is to ruin sale shape to spill wind vs lessening tipping moment by moving the sail leeward? The traveller on the old boat was further aft if that makes a difference. Please help!

not the purpose but,

Dan: It is obviously not the purpose of the traveler to ruin your sail shape. But this is why you probably may want to look into a rigid vang. My experience with the traveler farther aft causes more twist in the sail. Once the boom passes the point of direct downward force you no longer have control of the main. We just purchased a Garhauer rigid vang because of this problem ($230).

I'd also like to know more about the traveler use. Can someone quickly explain the theory of it to me?
