H25 Updates
I have made several changes to my 1979, Cherubini designed, Hunter. However, before I get to these, my Hunter came equipped with a traveler track. It is located on the flat area (approx 9 inches wide) between the cabin entrance and the cockpit (slightly lower than the raised cabin entrance). This appears to be a standard configuration judging by pictures in old catalogs and manuals. The only drawback to this location would be if you were going to add a dodger. The traveler that came with my boat had the standard sliding carriage with stops. I changed that to a rope and pulley arrangement (3:1 purchase) this year and like it very much. Yes, I did add a boom vang. I mounted a standard boom bail (available from West Marine) to the boom and one to the mast cathedral (held in place by the bolt securing the base of the mast). Off hand, I cannot remember how far out on the boom I placed the bail but it seems like the angle between the vang and the mast is 45 to 50 degrees. Other additions/changes include: cutting a hole in the platform located inside the aft lazaret to facilitate getting at the bolts for the motor mount (which had to be replaced) and to replace the cockpit drain hose (which froze and broke the first winter I had the boat); I have also added a third halyard for flying my cruising spinnaker and a roller furler for the head sail; and, I have run all halyards back to the cockpit to facilitate single-handed sailing; There are numerous other small things which I can go into later if you e-mail me directly.
