How soon do you want to buy a new boom?

I think you need to be very careful about just how far forward you place the traveler. Mid-boom travelers are much more likely to end up trashing, bending or snapping your boom than end boom travelers. It is a question of the amount of force that the traveler places on the boom. The closer the traveler to the mast, the higher the forces that are then transmitted by the mainsheet. I would go stroll down the docks and take a look at where most of the C27's with mid boom travelers have them located, and then put it there. You could also contact Catalina and ask them for the measurement to locate it. Good luck!!

Just forward of the companionway hatch

Hi Gregg - George is right; the loads are increased (think leverage) the closer the sheeting block is to the mast. My current boat has end boom sheeting, which I find much easier adjust with than all my previous boats that had mid boom sheeting. That being said, I believe the optimal place would be just forward of the companionway hatch - that's where most mid-boom sheeted boats have their traveller. George has good advice; look at other boats and call Catalina to see if they have specific info for the C27. Best, Trevor

Good resources

Two good resources to access for more info and helpful comments are: www.catalina27.org and http://www.geocities.com/catalina+27/ The first is the official international C27 Association's website, and the other is a no longer maintained but still online site that is and has been long viewed as "The" unofficial C27 website. The www.catalina27 list serv is rather clubby and at times overwhelming, but once you get used to the characters with nothing better to do with their time, notwithstanding their day jobs, they are a good bunch. I suspect that if you pose this question on that list serv you will get a good cross section of responses including probably at least one answer from someone who called Catalina and may have the info at hand. who did you buy it from?

if you got it from Garhaurer then I would immediately call guido and ask him. The other suggestion would be to call CUSTOMER SERVICE at CatalinaYachts.com ..........
