My friends last boat, a Freedom 28, had all the traveler lines from the top mounted traveler run aft to the cockpit. It was a nice set up and included three attachment points to the boom with the main sheet run forward and then aft to a clutch. I'd advise you to plan it out thoroughly and to talk to a rigger about the boom. Three attachment points may be a good way to distribute the load. Remember, you may need larger tackle to sheet at mid-boom.

Did you do this? I'm currently buying 11.0A which has the traveler on top. I go to sea trials this sat. I had the same boat yrs ago and the traveller never bothered me except you can't extend the dodger aft....

OEM is the way. They thought it out better and longer than I could. Every way you do it has sidebacks. Leave it alone. Live and let live.

On my version of the S2 27, the traveler is on the cabintop and mid-boom. Easier on the shins but higher loads to adjust. The factory traveler had spring pins and drilled holes at a few locations. Impossible to adjust under load and a real pain when single handing.
I replaced with a Lewmar Ocean series (from this site's chandlery) and the 4/1 purchase is still a bit of a haul in a breeze. Plan Plan Plan
