I bought a used Hunter 33 and want to install a track for a storm trysail. I don't know where the inside fittings that hold the wires are and I certainly don't want to drill into them. I am also putting on a track for the spinnaker pole. The boat was built in '82 and still going strong. I would appreciate any helpful hints I can get!

wire conduit location

The pvc conduit for my 79 H33 containing the wiring for the mast is on the front centerline and is evidenced on the outside of the mast by a line of double riveting which fastens the conduit to the interior.

I am surprised.

I thought the H33 used the same Kenyon mast as my '79 H37C. The photo is that mast section. The wiring is in the small channel behind the luff track, not inside the mast. It is bigger than it looks. I have two new Ancor three-wire cables plus the VHF coax in there with room to spare. But Terry would know. Seems like it would be hard to add a spinnaker track if the wires are right behind the forward side of the mast. Does yours have those rivets Terry mentioned?

But you can see it under "Cruising Masts" in the Related Link).

H33 mast section

Ed, here is a photo of the mast section. You're right about the spinnker pole track. I have one and the lower end of the wiring conduit was loose from an earlier track installation. Since I could reach the area from the lower end, I just fastened the conduit in with epoxy from the inside of the mast. It is possible to install the track though even with the conduit directly behind it since the wall is thick enough for threads, just have to be very careful not to drill through into the wiring.

Thanks Terry.

Your picture really clears things up. Wish I had taken some pictures while I was rewiring. From that picture the H33 mast looks to also be keel-stepped. Were all of them?
