A guy with a trailer can move it cheap or a boat transport company can do it safer for something around $3/mile. My son and I moved his Mumm36 to Milwaukee from Ct a few years ago ourselves but the permits were a pain so it's worth having a transport company do it.
I would give serious thought to investing the moving money into a trailer. I had one for my 23 foot Clipper Marine and really liked the $5 haul outs and ability to move it from place to place, even though it was wet berthed most of the time.
For a while, when I did not have a suitable towing vehicle, I just rented one from U haul for the day.

Don's est. is about what I would have guessed. I had a boat moved from Mo. to Ca. about 5 years ago and paid $6,000 for 2,000 miles.
You may also be able to borrow a trailer and do it yourself. You are looking at about 1,000 miles (2 day trip, minimum) or about $3k. If you can do this yourself you are looking at about $400 in fuel (if you have a vehicle that can town it) for a one way trip.

I found a licensed, insured mover that specialized in boats through uBid.com. You place your requirements on the site and receive bids from various movers. You get to choose. Mine was a move of my Catalina 30 from Savannah, Ga. to Brooklyn, NY and is cost me $2.000, door to door just 3 years ago. Check it out.

The cost of a trailer would probably be less than having a commercial mover move the boat. When done with the move the trailer also would allow you to take the boat home for the winter or when you want to do major work on it.
As JohnB recommended you could rent a truck from U-haul if needed.

Ray - Once I wanted to tow a boat Cat25 behind a rented U-Haul. I found out that they do not allow towing boats with their trucks. I do not know why and you can only tow 5000lb with their trucks as their hitches do not handle anything more. If you would like to tow your car behind a U-haul you must also rent their flat bet trailer.
I used American Boat Carries out of FL to have my Hunter 41 moved from Pensacola to Lake Superior (Washburn, WI). It cost 6500. They were very professional and very helpful. They are the carrier that Hunter uses and recommended.
