I have a 33.5 and will be installing a Danfoss BD50 compressor in the Starboard side seat locker. I would like to install a vent to assist with the air circulation but am concerned about water migration through the vent. I want to mount the vent on the stern side in a vertical position. Are there any waterproof typed vents available or is there another venting solution available.
Regards.

refrigeration venting of condensing unit

i am moving my condensing unit to the aft locker, and from the way it looks a direct duct should be installed between the condenser coil, and the sidwall vent. west marine has the vent in stainless or abs plastic, and with the louvers facing down but installed vertical application should work just fine. althoug it is advisable to install another vent to remove the heated condensing units air. i will use metal duct fabricated in a sheet metal shop. but fittings are available to use flexible hose and plastic fittings. when i finish my project i will post a pic, but not planning the move until spring.

If you install the vent downward enough on the stern (louvers downward) to allow the vent air hose inside the hull to have a slight "hump" in it just before it attaches to the vent, it should act like a water hose loop in keeping water out.

You know that when you do that your a/c unit will run Hotter reducing it's cooling abilities...RIGHT??
You need to keep a marine water cooled a/c unit in side a vented location below so it can take advantage of the cooler temperatures below. In extreme Summer I place an extra fan next compressor and I can pickup an extra 5 to 10 degrees cooling temperature out of the a/c blower vents.

I assume that you have already purchased the new refrigeration unit.

If you have not, you may want to look at the Isotherm unit. They produce almost no heat because of the SP unit that cools the unit with a thru hull for the sink drain.
