I just spent the night on my new 2001 cat.320 and didnt sleep a wink because of the water hitting the transom.... what can be done.... has anyone used a slap silencer? help im freakin out!!!
I hear ya!!!! Transom slapping is , to me, the worst noise to contend with on a boat. To eliminate the dreadful sound get a piece of canvass or old sail cloth. Sow lead weights on one end by lapping the end over itself (like a hem). Make it long enough to tie off the end of your boat and be submerged about a foot. It works beautifully!!!! I had one terrible night too before I acted on the problem....Good luck
...or, if you're incline dot buy that fix rahter than build it, there's a product inthe Chandlery of this site called the Slap Silencer that has received rave reviews for eliminating transom slap. I agree - it is far and away the worst noise on board.
The best way I have found to stop the slap is the tie my dingy off the stern quarter in the direction the wavelets are coming from. Be sure to use a fender between the stern and the dingy to avoid the squeeks. Best case yet to have to buy an inflatable dingy.
