Transom on 240

I've noticed that some 240 have the motor mounted at the transom cut out and others have the ladder mounted there. As designed, which is correct? Or did different model years change the mounting setup? Does switching them effect the balance of the boat?

Rod Johnson,

Owner mods?

I think the original (stock) layout was outboard in the cut-out to starboard, ladder on the solid part of the transom to port. I don't think there was any production change between model years (I could be wrong, someone should ask Rudy). I think it would be a toss-up as to which is best, having the motor in the cut-out makes its operation easier, but the lower level of that side would make boarding easier, and thus mounting the ladder there and moving the outboard to a bracket makes sense.
