Transom Mount Transducer mounted In-Hull?

I just picked up a Fish Finder Garmin 80 that comes with a transom mount/trolling motor mount transducer. Could this transducer work in-hull instead of on the transom? I've seen special pucks but not sure if this particular transducer would shoot thru the hull.Any comments would be great!

go to the Hunter Photo Forum and search for "Fish Easy 2" and you will see how I did mine on my 25.5....Has worked great for three years now. Dave

what I did

On a previous boat I used a transom mount depth sounder transducer by simply using silicon sealant to "glue" it to the hull. I picked a flat area. Worked great. This was on a 25 foot sailboat so on a larger boat the hull will be thicker. Don't know if this will affect the performance. For a depth sounder I was more interested in shallow water than deep. Worth a try, does not damage the transducer.
