Transom Ladder

I searched everywhere for the perfect swim ladder for my Catalina 22 and found this 4-step folding transom ladder from Marine Depot. I initially order one from West Marine, but it was too large and did not have stand-offs so I sent that back and ordered this one. It is the perfect size for this boat and seems to be very robust. I attached a picture for anyone looking to install a transom ladder for themselves.

I have four, aluminum yoke brackets on my C-22 but no ladder. The pattern of their location on the stern appear close, maybe identical to yours.

The hanging ladder with the J-hooks atop - that came with the boat will suffice, but I'd love to dump it in favor of getting what you have.

Do you recall the website link for the ladder? I'll scope it out, check the dimensions and see if the one you have, is a dead ringer for my stern fitting geometry.

Close, but no cigar. I have four mounting yokes, not two. Thanks for the link. It's a great looking unit.

Sorry it didn't work out Ken.
I bought the same ladder from this web sight,Catalina owners.com. call them from the store #. Mine cost with shipping $200. Since I sail in cold water I use a jack line if I'm alone so the boat doesn't take off if I fall overboard. I run it from bow cleat to Stearn cleat out side of the stanchions then use a 6 foot tether connecting me to the boat with an inflatable offshore life jacket with 2 D rings to clip on to me. If I do go over board I'd work myself to the back of the boat and hopefully reach for the ladder. I drag a floating type of line 5ft long attached to the ladder with a float at the other end so I can pull the ladder down and get aboard.

Hello, Has anyone added a small swim platform along with a ladder used by dickinoob. I have not seen any catalinas with the platform in the back. I wonder if it interferes with the rudder?

I was thinking of trying this one I saw on ebay. I kind of like the thought of the little platform. I could always lash an extra (well sealed)gas can out there for long trips. About the same price like 150 bucks. Whaddya guys think? Teak too...uuuuuu snazzy. :)

Not a bad little platform, but I would not keep a Jerry can there under way. The right wave could take it and your platform clear off the boat.

Long enough

When selecting a ladder, make sure you have one long enough for at least 2 steps to be under water when deployed. Think about it, if only one step is submerged you would have to bring your feet to almost your chest to reach the first rung and be lifting all your weight horizontally rather than vertical like a ladder on land.

That ladder looks like the bottom would be in the water on Port tack? Any reports on that being an issue?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul - Yes, the corner does drag in the water a bit when heeled over, which is fine when cruising. I actually replaced the original bolts with quick release pins so I can remove the ladder while racing.

Hope it's not too late to bump this thread, but I'm in the market for a ladder. There's already some good info here, so I'd like to keep it rolling if that's okay!

Anyone else have a pic to throw out, or a link to a ladder you have, or one you'd like to have?

OH - and does a stern pulpit make it harder to get in, or easier? I have the pulpit and it looks like it'll be way harder to get in with it there.

Thanks!

I'm glad I found this "old" thread. I want to install a transom mount ladder on my Capri 18 and this thread has given me some ideas.
