Is there a preferred location and hole size (diameter) in the transom of an ODay 22 (1978) for the cables (electric start) to the engine? Should this be located above the mount, outboard of it, or between the mount and rudder? Thanks for any information!

transom hole

We made small holes for both the electric start wire and the gas hose. The holes are located between the rudder and the motor mount and have rubber grommets to keep the water out. The electric wire goes right into the lazeret for easy connection to the battery. The gas hose is fed through the transom (my boat has a small access hole in the cockpit transom to facilitate feeding it through), with another hole in the gas tank storage locker on the port side. This works great and looks good, too.
