Transom Angle

Does anyone out there have answer to this question. I am trying to determine the angle of the transom on my 1994 Hunter 26. I know it slants back a bit, but . . . I am hoping someone else has determined this. I called Hunter, but they didn't know (that surprised me frankly). Thanks, Michael

Why do you need to know this?

The big question is why do you need to know unless it is for general information. Do you have a motor attached to the transom without having the extended outboard motor bracket? Crazy Dave Condon

Transducer mount

Michael, If you haven't already purchased the transducer you may want to rethink this. I mounted a transom mount 'duc on my H26 and found it's not optimum due to heel angles and rudder swing. I had to mount it starboard of the rudder about 6 inches to prevent hitting it when the rudder swings but then when I'm on a starboard tack the 'duc is out of the water at about 15 degrees of heel. So, thru-hulls are the way to go. I'm going to change mine out one of these days. Good luck, Jim

Through the hull

Om my 26, I mounted a transom mount transducer to the hull under the aft berth, right behind the ballast tank. I was installing a GARMIN GPSMAP 125 fishfinder/GPS, I squeezed out a nice puddle of RTV (NO BUBBLES!!) and set the transducer in it. It shoots through the hull and has been there for 3 years now. It is pretty darn accurate and picks up fish, the bottom contour and bottom type (hard or soft) just fine. I don't think the temperature is accurate. Best part is I didn't have to drill any holes.

Unfortunately

Well, I already have the transducer, so . . . On my old boat I had the transducer inside as Mike suggests. I went with this kind because 1) that is what the old owner had, and 2) I wanted the speedometer that comes with it. So, we'll see. I hope it works. If not, I will have to change it out, I guess. Thanks.

The best area for a speed transducer is just aft of the ballast tank on either side of the bilge pump. Thanks for the tid bit Jim. I learned on this one from your advice. Maybe some day we will meet. Crazy Dave Condon
