you need to make a "wedge" out of wood or aluminum etc... to provide the correct angle for bracket to attach to. keep in mind that the trim settings on outboard have limitations as well and you may need to build this optimum angle into bracket as well.

I may have the solution for you. You need to mount a block on your transom that will provide your engine bracket with the proper angles needed. Unfortunately, these blocks aren't available to my knowledge so you're going to have to make one.

My friend Ray has a 1986 O'Day 26 and he made one out of solid pine and I think he fiberglassed it. It works well for him. Trex would be a good material to use in making one but I don't think it can be glued. Another good material would be PVC Foam Board which can be glued with PVC cement. It can also be spray painted.
I used these materials to make a mast extrusion last month and it came out well. I also replaced a 1" thick Teak board under my tabernacle with 1" Trex. It's a heavy material that is commonly used for porches, patios, and marine decks and it holds up excellent under weather.
The PVC FB is a good substitute for plywood and some guys use it on boats to build cabinets. They are pricey, but they are good materials. I like them better than HDPE.

Here's some pics of Ray's block on his OD 26. The fourth pic is the block on my OD 222. The fifth pic is a block on an 86 OD 272 and the remainder of the pics is the mast extrusion that I made last month for my OD 222. The last two pics show the Trex in place under the tabernacle on my O'Day 222. I like these materials. They seem quite strong to me and I believe that they will hold up well.

Someone had pointed out that the surface of the wedge where the bracket bolts on, kind of slopes down and doesn't appear to be 90 degrees. I have no idea why they made the blocks this way but I'm sure they had a reason for it. It's something to think about if you decide to build your own block.
I think that it's important that the block be cut so that the engine is as straight as it would be, sitting on a square transom. Some sloops as you know, not only have sterns that slant in and are also curved and this is where the block comes in at keeping the outboard straight with both the center line and athwartships line of the boat.

Joe, I need to make a similar wedge this spring before launching. I would like to make one for my O'Day 25 that I expect will be very similar to what Ray made. I would like to reach out to Ray for advice, measurements, etc. Do you have his contact info?
