I've got a well kept Hunter '27 (1982)... Often when we put it in forward the boat moves very slowly for about a minute then there is a slight 'clunk' and she picks up speed and goes fine. Odd thing is the boat is in gear and moving forward but not much..... not low on transm. fluid.

try this....

remove the shift cable on the transmission and shift it into forward and reverse by hand. Also try changing the motor oil in the transmission.

Happened to me

This had been happening to me for several years in my '81 H27 and I finally had to have the transmission rebuilt this spring. What may be happening (it was with me) is that the drive cone in the transmission is worn and will slip until the engine is warmed up and it engages properly.

Oh Boy!

I was afraid that's what y'all were going to say. If the darn thing was not going in gear it would be one thing...but the slipping is wierd. I was hoping someone might have a simple fix.... Looks like I might have a project this Winter. But I'm still hoping. So, where do I get the parts for this transmission? 1982 Yanmar 8 hp.....
