Transmission Shift Cable

Good morning folks - very long time since I have posted here, but I have come across a problem I cannot seem to fix. Those of you who have either helped or been helped by me in the past may remember I have an Atomic 4 - which runs like a top! Unfortunately, it has outlived my Morse transmission shifter/throttle assembly. Specifically, the throttle knob has stripped itself and now just spins on its shaft. Does anyone know where I can get a like model? I have found $600 units on a few websites, but I'd prefer a used model, or at least a new one in a reasonable price range. The shifter sits down low by the sole of the cockpit, so the only loving care it gets is the occasional kick by an errant boat shoe (no respect). Anyway - your help is greatly appreciated in this area. Best - Rob p.s. - I searched the Forums - no luck. And archives appear to be down.

If I understand

your problem then perhaps the answer is to drill out the handle hole and install a bushing. Other than that a bit of prowling around some boat yards may unearth one that was removed during a repowering.

I replaced mine 2 years ago on my 78C30. The plastic bushings had worn out in the old one and it was so stiff you had to kick the shifter at times to get it to move. I could not find anything new that would work as a direct replacement but I posted on several forums around the internet and found a used one in TX that I picked up fo $50. It's a lot of work to swap them and depending on the year it was made the mounting can be completely different. They look the same from the outside but the bracket and everything is different. If that is all that is wrong with yours I would try to repair it before I replaced it. With all the hurricanes I'm sure you wouldn't have a problem finding a used if that is the route you want to go.
