Transmission oil

Hello all, I will be servicing my trans oil next week. Is the recommended oil dextron or Mercon ATF? I cannot remember . I have a 1980 Catalina 30 with the 5411 universal diesel. Kind regards, and happy sailing

What is the transmission model... some transmissions NEED the type F fluid as it has no friction modifiers... friction modifiers can cause slippage and overheating.

Universals use Hurth transmissions, use Dexron, it's up to IV now.

Yes. IIRC, the bottom has a non-reusable crush washer.

I use a big plastic syringe or a turkey baster on plastic tubing through the top dipstick.
